Calm within the Chaos

Calm within the Chaos

Everything we do is infused with the energy with which we do it.
If we’re frantic, life will be frantic. If we’re peaceful, life will be peaceful.

~ Marianne Williamson

Any time the energy around you feels a bit heavy or overwhelming, it is essential for you to remember that you have the power to shift the energy. You can allow what is happening around you to affect you or you can maintain the calm within the chaos and consciously choose how you wish to respond. Becoming aware of your own energetic emission is necessary, so that you can gauge what feels “off” to you.

I have mentioned before that I am aware of issues connected to Mercury Retrograde, but I don’t intentionally fuel them with fear or worry. During my time in Kansas City recently, my patience was really tested as I experienced numerous challenges. There were issues involving my email, website, communication and even my own energy. On four separate occasions, I actually had to have my hotel room key reprogrammed. Each time was a reminder to pause, breathe and do my best to stay in a space of grace.

To experience peace does not mean that your life is always blissful.
It means that you are capable of tapping into a blissful state of mind
amidst the normal chaos of a hectic life.
~ Jill Bolte Taylor

When there is perceived chaos surrounding you, come back to you by grounding and centering your energy. To ground your energy, visualize your legs as tree roots growing into the earth below and work with grounding crystals, such as hematite, jet, smoky quartz and black tourmaline. Staying hydrated assists with grounding as well.

Then, center your energy by visualizing white light at your core and see that light shifting to yellow, which is the color of the solar plexus chakra. Breathe in peace, love, calmness and serenity as you exhale the heavy, lower vibrational energy that may be affecting you. Remember, often times you cannot control what is happening around you, but you can attain the peace within and choose how you wish to respond.

Thich Nhat Hanh

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Tik · N’yat · Hawn) is a spiritual leader, author, poet and peace activist, who is respected throughout the world for his powerful teachings on mindfulness and peace. Among his many important teachings is that in order to heighten one’s awareness, it is essential to be mindful of all that is experienced in each and every moment. He teaches that incorporating enhanced awareness into our daily life will ultimately enrich our lives.

An influential and inspirational presence, Thich Nhat Hanh is affectionately known as Thay (pronounced “Tay” or “Tie”) by his students, which is the Vietnamese word for teacher. He influenced my own personal journey into consciousness as well as that of numerous others, and I have found that his key teaching is that, “through mindfulness, we can learn to live happily in the present moment, which is the only way to truly develop peace, both in one’s self and in the world.”

The Plum Village.org website talks about mindfulness as, “the energy of being aware and awake to the present moment. It is the continuous practice of touching life deeply in every moment of daily life. To be mindful is to be truly alive, present and at one with those around you and with what you are doing. We bring our body and mind into harmony while we wash the dishes, drive the car or take our morning shower.”

From my perspective, as we become more aware and mindful of our own personal power, we are better able to make conscious choices, and give ourselves permission to take control of our destiny instead of leaving it up to fate.

Life can be found only in the present moment. The past is gone, the future is not yet here,
and if we do not go back to ourselves in the present moment, we cannot be in touch with life.
~
Thich Nhat Hanh

By shifting perception of an experience, the experience itself will change, including those in the past, the ones that are presently occurring and those that have yet to happen. This transformation involves altering one’s mindset and attitude as well as being mindful of one’s thoughts, words and actions – the energetic emission that radiates from each one of us.

Journey into Being Mindfully Present

Journey into Being Mindfully Present

The deeper I have delved into my spiritual work, the more I have realized the importance of being present. I have learned to appreciate each moment of each day as well as the necessity of balancing work with play and taking time for myself.

breatheoprahquoteBeing mindfully present involves living in the moment rather than focusing on the future or dwelling in the past. Focus on living, being and breathing in the moment. As you become conscious of being present, your awareness will increase and you will become more connected with yourself and with others. Your appreciation for each moment will increase as well.

Being present also involves acknowledging, recognizing and then silencing the voice inside your head, otherwise known as mind chatter – the flow of words in the form of thoughts and questions that stream through one’s mind continuously causing doubt and uncertainty. Your thoughts, words, and actions are energy. Therefore, this mind chatter would be considered an energetic emission much like a radio signal.

Individuals tend to replay scenarios over and over again and ask, “What could I have done differently?” or “What if…?” They also play the “should” game saying, “I should have done this or I should have done that….then, this would not have happened.” How can you be so sure? Hindsight, which is the ability of understanding later what was actually the best thing to do, is formidable. We tend to retain from experiences what is necessary for future growth. In reality, the decisions we make at the time we made them are because we have free will. Each one of us is having a human experience because we choose to. Learning from our experiences and not repeating them unless we choose to is a benefit to having them to begin with.

Consciously choosing to live in this present moment – in the here and now – enables you to be in the flow of creation. Choose to be in the flow of allowance rather than restricting or inhibiting this flow with fear, worry, doubt or the linear aspect of time.
